Taylor in town
The phenomenon that is ‘Taylor Swift’ is hitting Edinburgh in less than a week! Whether residents like it or not, with road route changes and the average price of residing in Edinburgh extortionate during her stay, it will happen. This is a real craze, a real show stopper spectacular which is ongoing, upbeat and relevant. I do not recall such a surge of passion, admiration and fanatic behaviour since ‘The queen of pop’, Madonna of course.
This shared passion for Taylor Swift has fans bonding with a real hot topic conversation. From the incident at the award ceremony, to documentaries and a long time period of performances and continued song writing - it seems the artist has it all! It would be easy to think that it is all effortless to her, but with concerts left, right and centre, writing in between and fitting in a personal life, she remains cool, calm and just as creative, if not more so, than ever.
With the apprehension, excitement along with high expectations crowds will flock to Murrayfield stadium for three consecutive nights, Friday being the opener. For Swifties it appears that a huge part of being a follower is the ‘guessing’ part….
Taylor likes to play and code in order to surprise her followers. Boredom is not a word which exists in the Taylor Swift song department but the newest release ‘The tortured poets department’ goes further with the surprising factors - with songs like fortnight and Florida and some open ended lyrics addressing some encounters she has experienced. The autobiographical side is not new to her records, but she seems grown and has reached a new level of sophistication.
The seriousness of her music is not to be taken lightly as there are courses which cover her music career so far: yes you can study her at some universities, eventually a scroll at graduation can be obtained which may have started with the student having a single poster of the singer and what a journey that is potentially.
In Scotland there were also courses but with a different flavour - to educate the ‘Swiftie’s’ family about the musician, ie. parents mostly. These courses were free of charge and highlighted what it is desirable to know about the star to gain a deeper understanding of the varying aspects of her songs, tours and relationship with her fans.
Fans must be curious to know about the song set and how the three nights will contain a few differences making that particular concert special and unique. The radio stations have it hyped up to the max with even ticket competitions (the tickets sold out in under three seconds).
It is as if fans regard her as a goddess with wardrobe choice as a main feature of attending the show. The performer has truly proven herself and loves to give back to her fans. Edinburgh is hosting the very first of her British shows. Fun, good spirit and atmospheric stage scenarios are sure to bring the house down. Go Taylor!
