Our Features

at the heart of the matter...

01

eco - friendly way of being

Taking care of our beautiful planet is a cause which many people feel they are at the heart of - whether giving up plastic bags or participating in the 'new coat' scheme, where you simply choose a coat and can donate too. We all have a role to play no matter how small.

02

true to the heart of midlothian

This brilliant part of the U.K. has plenty of things going on where we can participate and find our own niche.  What does the typical Midlothian lady seek out?  Many services; to nail salons to a quiet walk or somewhere reasonably priced.  A good coffee at the local bakers will do for me but sometimes a wee afternoon tea might be a good idea...

03

cultural diversity

With a host of different backgrounds, experiences and outlooks, it is interesting to hear the array of languages spoken.  Midlothian feels like a wee melting pot highlighting the uniqueness of us all.

04

Technology social media

Living through this technological 'revolution' sometimes I feel left behind and struggling with 'technophobia' now and again...but everything has advanced so quickly with almost everything at the touch of a button these days which is wonderful but lets not lose our face to face interactions.

Our local citizens advice bureau is invaluable for signposting, seeking advice and advocacy. It really is a service which is useful and relevant in these trying times post covid and with ‘the cost of living crisis’. The Penicuik service will host a visit from ‘Princess Royal Princess Anne’ on September the 12th.

The Princess is Patron of Citizens Advice Scotland and her visit which will last one hour in support of the Bureau advisers will also celebrate others in close association with the bureau: The service of over thirty four years of Sue Peart, the manager and Russel Gray the assistant manager, with 25 years of service.

Recently awarded with ‘Knight of the Thistle’, Professor Sir Geoff Palmer, a trustee with Penicuik CAB for twenty years will also be celebrated. His achievements will be recognised with a heritage plaque which will name the building ‘Palmer House’ in his honour.

The Princess will be accompanied by Lord-Lieutenant of Midlothian, Lieutenant Colonel Richard Callender as she meets project workers who deliver income maximisation to families. She will also meet with project partners of CAB such as Midlothian Sure Start, Food Fact Friends Community pantry, Change works.

The Guerrilla Gardeners of Penicuik are also on the meeting agenda, who have made floral displays around the town as well as having cleared the garden space at CAB and brightened it up.

Congratulations to all those involved - these services are crucial and support efficiently and compassionately with our queries, situations and solutions.
