Our Features

at the heart of the matter...

01

eco - friendly way of being

Taking care of our beautiful planet is a cause which many people feel they are at the heart of - whether giving up plastic bags or participating in the 'new coat' scheme, where you simply choose a coat and can donate too. We all have a role to play no matter how small.

02

true to the heart of midlothian

This brilliant part of the U.K. has plenty of things going on where we can participate and find our own niche.  What does the typical Midlothian lady seek out?  Many services; to nail salons to a quiet walk or somewhere reasonably priced.  A good coffee at the local bakers will do for me but sometimes a wee afternoon tea might be a good idea...

03

cultural diversity

With a host of different backgrounds, experiences and outlooks, it is interesting to hear the array of languages spoken.  Midlothian feels like a wee melting pot highlighting the uniqueness of us all.

04

Technology social media

Living through this technological 'revolution' sometimes I feel left behind and struggling with 'technophobia' now and again...but everything has advanced so quickly with almost everything at the touch of a button these days which is wonderful but lets not lose our face to face interactions.

Let’s talk

There is nothing quite like it - an abundance of flowers growing, blooming and brightening up your day. Add some sunshine to the equation and the experience you have in a local park or somewhere else nearby can be visually beautiful, fragrant and even boost your mood.

Here in Midlothian there has been an immense amount of work including the planting last year of over one million bulbs (that's right) and the maintenance following on to keep the floral outdoor arrangements looking great.

The flowers you may see in parks and roundabouts may well be the result of this work, where funding was made available through the Scottish government's nature restoration for the butterfly and bee friendly flowers.

Gardeners were thanked personally by Dianne Alexander from land and countryside teams.

Despite a wet and dull few weeks, flowers are the essence of spring and often this can spur us on in the garden if we have one. Our hard work is repaid with sight and array of colours that we can enjoy and this can help us in getting to know our garden, what grows best where and perhaps trying a new flower which is not yet familiar.

The idea of bees and butterflies seeing my garden as a haven to explore feels great! They usually spot the lavender plant and bring their friends along where they all contribute to a gentle buzz of hard work - I can't help but wonder what the honey tastes like...
