an open door for our pets

Our pets mean so much to us but have you noticed that more and more places are welcoming dogs - it feels great and accepting. Our canine best friends can participate in outings to the garden centre or to a bar lunch. Even designated areas, ideal for doggy socialisation with giant bowls of water to keep them all refreshed.
Following in the footsteps of France? Man's best friend does not always appreciate being left behind and so outings with the 'pack' perhaps reinforce the value of our pet. In France often a dog is one of the family and nobody really notices this inclusive attitude...
Is it always for the best? My little cairn was permitted into the newsagent but anxiety took over him and he just lay flat as if going to the vets. Being attentive to their needs and reactions is important - just because their presence is permitted does not necessarily make it a fun experience.
People have dogs now for a number of reasons - people living alone can find a new purpose or have a companion dog for a number of reasons including anxiety.
Our dogs like us can be choosy and determined - a swim in the river or some seasonal scents might be enough without fitting them in to our routine but equally with us might be where they are their happiest!
