WHERE’S THE FULL CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE?
The cinema or ‘pictures’ if you like is on the decline - a once thriving industry must feel the pinch with the fall of ticket purchases
After the pandemic the number of people going to the cinema has fizzled out significantly. On top of that we have ‘streaming’ and we have Netflix.
The cinema offers many things - an escape for a few hours, immersing yourself in a world of characters and images which bring a story to a vivid conclusion and an interesting outing with space for reflection and discussion. But there has been a clear shift as convenience, price and viewing choices drive customers elsewhere and notably at home with the big TV screen….
But what about the film industry? Is it just me or has some originality been lost?
Although the cinema experience can involve all sorts of other pleasures such as an evening/afternoon out with family and friends, a meal and potentially a movie with ‘food for thought’ or just sheer entertainment there is something unique about staying home with a binge worthy series….
It seems there is something for everyone where the only drawback may be too much choice, making selection a lengthy process - but when we find the ‘one’ that meets our taste and preferences, it can be a damn good watch.
From ‘Meghan with love’ to ‘Mix Tape’, the genres and categories are endless, reflecting society's diverse taste and hunt for something which makes them tick.
Which was the last film you watched at the cinema? How did it make you feel? For me it was a music oriented film - The Eras tour and also the ‘Amy Winehouse’ story.
Going to ‘the cinema’ or watching from the comfort of your own home, it’s all about storylines and plots and recent series, episodes and seasons is what keeps us glued to the screen when it is a well received piece of acting and entertainment.
But let's hope the cinema is not being phased out….
