A Covenant Plan for Midlothian Armed Forces

This five year plan has at its heart a vision of positive outcome for those who are serving or have served and their families too.

Why is this important?  Broadly speaking people in the armed forces are very often overlooked, taken for granted and ignored. Their input however is massive, significant and essential. The nation's safety lies in their hands and so they should be treated with dignity and respect.

Here in Midlothian a Covenant Plan has come into effect from 2025 to 2030.  What does this entail?  There are strategic plans to ensure that the armed forces personnel are not to be disadvantaged when it comes to public services. It will be through partnerships, collected data and lived experience that this goal will be obtained. Information is the key source to meeting the specific needs of the Armed Forces community.

The commitment put forward includes; further improvements, securing and ensuring representation, reducing barriers, raising awareness and strengthening understanding.

For Armed Forces pupils, there is a programme called MIPSA which will run for two years with funds from the Covenant.  This will give the pupils support packages and help with confidence building and attainment.

Who is involved in this plan?  It is a shared responsibility with; local government, businesses, health services, third sector and also the community at large.

With this initiative Scotland will continue the long standing connection to those who serve and make sacrifices for the nation.
