Midlothian, with many hidden gems and some not so hidden, like Roslin chapel for example, which has enjoyed an increase in popularity over a few decades resulting in more people visiting this area.

There is a brand new initiative launched called ‘The Grail Trails Project’ which is supported by Midlothian council.  The idea is that visitors will venture a bit further than the chapel itself - and explore the surrounding areas too.  Roslin Glen Country Park and Roslin Village has a lot to offer including accessible strolls to more challenging walks.

So if you want to get out there and experience the great outdoors, fresh air and all it brings - consider a ‘Grail Trail’!  The idea was formed by Richard Harris, the owner of the original Rosslyn Inn and also a native who has enjoyed this area since childhood.

How do we obtain the ‘Grail Trail’ ‘passport’ to be actively involved?  Apart from the original Rosslyn Inn and Visit Midlothian, you can also access information on the website:  www.grailtrails.co.uk

Community benefit is at the heart of this project - as it exemplifies that working in partnership can really result in interesting outcomes, as Roslin can now encourage the people to discover Roslin and the wider scope.

Council Leader, Kelly Parry had this to say : ‘We are delighted to support the Grail Trails Project, which not only encourages healthier lifestyles through walking but also helps distribute the benefits of tourism more widely across Roslin and Midlothian’.

With three trails to choose from every walk is unique, sharing the best of nature and views.  Having the chapel enhances any visit with its beauty and deeply historic presence.

Officially launched at a special event on Monday, this great project should have us getting our walking gear out and ready to explore….
