One year on and Midlothian Snowsports Centre has welcomed many more visitors than anticipated - the alpine coaster had 300,000 people and this is more than double the amount that were hoped.

This huge achievement is thanks to 'phase one' of the 'Destination Hillend Project' to have a year-round attraction. The coaster can actually reach speeds of 45 MPH and has a vertical drop of 170 metres.

The number of visitors is quite exceptional considering that it was opened only in February on a full time basis. It is one of a kind in Scotland and it's popularity proves that introducing this ride has paid off in terms of fun and also safeguarding the future of the Snowsports centre.

Midlothian council leader Councillor Kelly Parry has said that this success will inform plans for phase two of the project. Other facilities include dry ski slopes and tubing runs, snowboarding and a cafe.

The centre has been visited by actor Matt Damon and his family and also a key influencer whose coaster ride was viewed more than sixteen million times!

The plans are to offer even more family friendly outdoor attractions - giving families the opportunity to spend the day there.

Prices are currently £7 for a single ticket and £19 for three rides.
