Paris: The fashion icon who never wanted to be remembered.

The creative genius that was Karl Lagerfeld did not have any inclination of wanting to go down in fashion history as the established, talented designer he was. It was not what he stood for. Fame it seems was a consequence of doing what came natural to him. Recalling his greatness will not bring him back to the fashion world but wow those out-fits will be difficult to forget.
As many designers have done previously: Monsieur Lagerfeld collaborated with the high street however he made it clear that the principle aim was to actually offer access to top end designer clothes to those unable to afford them otherwise. When it became apparent that many were not able to access the designs notably in Eastern Europe he felt so let down that he claimed he would not work with Swedish brand H and M ever again. Customers caught sight of the various cutting edge and chic clothes only to find they were sold out within a few hours!

Design, design and even more design! The fashion master worked with Chanel and also Fendi creating world class fashion outfits. One model whom he worked with claimed that he was the only designer who could make black and white into color! Personally I admired the simplicity yet extravagance of the black shirts and jackets. Unfortunately, like many, I missed the H and M range back in 2004.
The man himself was very often considered a bit of a mystery and did not really draw attention to himself. He carried his image in immaculate form with his recognizable pony tail and sun glasses. He would sometimes share a strong opinion - such as # me too and the refuge crisis. But whether we agree with his statements or not is irrelevant to the mark he left on the world of fashion and design.
Many are speculating about his 'actual' age at death and what may happen to his beloved cat. So let us respect this unassuming man by leaving his memory alone perhaps - but never the outfits! The grace and elegance will live on for sure....'vive la mode'
