eco - friendly way of being

Taking care of our beautiful planet is a cause which many people feel they are at the heart of - whether giving up plastic bags or participating in the 'new coat' scheme, where you simply choose a coat and can donate too. We all have a role to play no matter how small.

02

true to the heart of midlothian

This brilliant part of the U.K. has plenty of things going on where we can participate and find our own niche.  What does the typical Midlothian lady seek out?  Many services; to nail salons to a quiet walk or somewhere reasonably priced.  A good coffee at the local bakers will do for me but sometimes a wee afternoon tea might be a good idea...

03

cultural diversity

With a host of different backgrounds, experiences and outlooks, it is interesting to hear the array of languages spoken.  Midlothian feels like a wee melting pot highlighting the uniqueness of us all.

Technology social media

Living through this technological 'revolution' sometimes I feel left behind and struggling with 'technophobia' now and again...but everything has advanced so quickly with almost everything at the touch of a button these days which is wonderful but lets not lose our face to face interactions.

How can a simple indoor plant make me feel better you may ask. Good question. Research has some answers for us: Prepare yourself for this! - Up to 87% of air toxins can be removed in the space of 24 hours! So before you head out to buy an air ionizer, think twice! Perhaps get your self to the indoor plant section of Ikea or Dobbie's instead where the selection is vast and moreover 'affordable'.

Spring clean with no effort! Gone are the days of dusting vigorously and using Mr Sheen which only creates dust in the air and CFC emissions in the atmosphere. Instead get some wipes which absorbs the dust instead and potentially invest in a few house plants.

I might forget to water them! If you are busy and think caring for plants may be a burden, well there are other options: The good old cactus does not take much time and effort and often flowers too.

Combat stress, low concentration and boost mood too! Have you noticed that often there will be plants in waiting rooms at the Health services? They are on to something! It has been proven to reduce stress levels and help concentration and mood. So for those with mental ill health indoor plants could make a difference to well-being.

Creative outlet. So a simple indoor plant can help with providing a healthier atmosphere and support us mentally but there is also huge scope to go 'to town' and create your very own inspiring 'indoor garden'. There are a variety of props and plant surfaces available at IKEA which can be useful if space is limited.

It looks great! So the air is getting detoxified and at the same time the living-room/kitchen/conservatory is looking good.

What's not to love about a simple indoor plant?

Where to go?

IKEA has a decent range with prices starting from £3 for an aloe vera plant (great for the skin!)

DOBBIE'S stock a lovely plant at £14.99 - 'The little Botanical chamaedorea'
