This wonderful extinct volcano in the heart of the city is a joy to see and if you venture to hike either around it or up to the summit the spectacular views will be well worth the effort!
Beautiful and admirable all year round it is especially stunning with blue skies and sunshine.
Grab a camera, waterproofs and a flask and enter onto the greenery and rocky landscape.
Take in the fresh air and be prepared to notice something new even if you have visited several times previously!
You may spot a ferry leaving from fife or yet another new student accommodation building. Edinburgh is a bustling city and this view confirms that without question.

The Loch, sometimes frozen in the winter months contrasts with and compliments the rugged surroundings.
Historical importance
Back in the year 1836 mini coffins were found in the cliff side - consisting of wooden figures. There were seventeen found!
There is a saying that on May Day women can climb Arthur's seat and wash their face with the dew resulting in youthful and healthy complexion! This is referred to in 1773 in a poem by Robert Fergusson.
Certainly the best outings in Edinburgh and Midlothian are free! It is easy to forget what is on the door step.
